These Seminars are for three separate days over a short period, usually three weeks. This allows time between Seminar days to practise what you have learned, and bring the results back to the group.
During this online Practitioner Seminar we will look in depth at the IoPT Practitioner.
The IoPT practitioner is a very specialised professional. While they are a 'therapist' in a sense, in fact the work of the IoPT practitioner is quite different from the practice of the 'conventional' psychotherapist. In some ways we do the opposite of the conventional psychotherapist. For example, in conventional psychotherapy the relationship between the therapist and the client is the focus. For us the focus is the process, and the IoPT practitioner must refrain from subtly or obviously inviting a more conventional therapy relationship. Our job is to constantly direct the focus back into the process. There are many quite subtle ways in which we can fall into a more 'therapy' kind of relationship, such as talking too much.
The IoPT practitioner, at their best, needs to become highly skilled and able to tolerate uncertainty, confusion, chaos and helplessness without losing themselves in their own trauma survival. The IoPT practitioner needs to be skilled at understanding what they are seeing, and be able to relate this usefully to the IoPT theory in the moment... and afterwards on reflection.
There are skills and ideas that we can learn together to improve our facilitation. That is what I aim to cover in the Seminar.
The group will be limited to 20 participants, and is aimed at IoPT practitioners who are already working with IoPT Theory and the Intention Method (the Self-Encounter Method) either in the Individual Session or the group session.
The Seminar will involve me working with participants with the understanding that we can make a detailed focus after the process on how I worked and what my thinking was. There will also be opportunities for participants to facilitate each other, again focusing in the feedback session on the skills and thinking of the practitioner.
Eligibility: participants will have a reasonably good grounding in IoPT theory, and will be in practice, i.e. working with clients in the individual and/or group session.
